GIVING POLICY
Designated Gift Policy
Spending of funds is confined to programs and projects approved by the Elders. Each restricted contribution designated towards such an approved program or project will be used as designated with the understanding that when the need for such a program or project has been met, or cannot be completed for any reason determined by the Board of Elders, the remaining restricted contributions will be used where needed most.
Year-End Donation Receipting Policy
A donation must be received by December 31 for the donor to receive a current year tax receipt for it. A donation received after December 31 will be receipted for the following year. This pertains to all donation methods.
Donations received through our usual Sunday methods will be receipted for the current year if they are given on a Sunday in the current year.
If a donor wishes to mail a cheque dated for December with the intent that the donation will be receipted for the current year, the donor must ensure the cheque arrives by December 15 to allow enough time for the donation to be processed, deposited, and recorded in the current year, thereby allowing a tax receipt to be issued for the current year.
Our online giving system is the recommended method for year-end donations to ensure that donations are received in the current year, and therefore tax receipted for the current year. Donations can be submitted online up to midnight of December 31 and be receipted for the current year.
All donors must have a mailing address on file in order to receive a tax slip.
